DLA Phillips Fox wins Law and Justice Award
DLA Phillips Fox was last night awarded the 2008 Pro Bono Partnership Award by the Law and Justice Foundation of New South Wales at Parliament House in Sydney.
The award was presented in recognition of the firm's work with the Arts Law Centre of Australia on its 'Artists in the Black' project. Through this initiative, DLA Phillips Fox has assisted indigenous artists in remote communities by providing advice in relation to trusts, intellectual property, management agreements, disputes with agents and galleries, wills and estates, and a range of other matters.
DLA Phillips Fox Pro bono Director Nic Patrick, said the firm was proud of its involvement with the Arts Law Centre.
"Through our work with the Arts Law Centre, our lawyers are helping to create and protect sustainable income streams for indigenous artists and remote indigenous communities.
"The work has enabled our lawyers to extend themselves geographically, intellectually and emotionally. We are very grateful to the Arts Law Centre for allowing us to be an integral part of such a transformative and inspiring project, and we are looking forward to our next trip to Arnhem Land in November," Mr Patrick said.
DLA Phillips Fox has a strong commitment to pro bono work and last year over 77% of lawyers at DLA Phillips Fox were involved in a pro bono matter.
